1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Socratree, you agree to these Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, and any additional guidelines we may publish. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. Beta Service

Socratree is currently in beta. Features may change, be added, or be removed without notice. We provide the service "as is" during this period and make no guarantees about uptime, data retention, or feature availability. We appreciate your feedback as we refine the platform.

3. Your Account

• You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• One person may not maintain more than one account.
• You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

4. Your Content & Private Use

• You retain ownership of all books, documents, and files you upload to Socratree. Socratree functions as a private, secure workspace and does not make your content publicly accessible.
• You are the sole 'Data Controller' of your uploaded files. You represent and warrant that you hold all necessary rights, licenses, or legal exceptions (such as private use) to upload and process any content you provide.
• By uploading content, you grant Socratree a limited, temporary license to process (including via third-party AI APIs), store, and return that content to you solely for the purpose of providing our services to you.
• You may delete your content at any time. Deleted content will be permanently removed from our systems.

5. AI-Generated Content

• Socratree utilizes artificial intelligence to generate debates, challenges, and mind maps based on your private documents.
• You legally own the AI-generated outputs created within your account, subject directly to the intellectual property rights of the original uploaded material.
• AI-generated content is not factual advice. It is designed to stimulate critical thinking and should not be relied upon as authoritative or accurate.
• AI responses may contain errors, hallucinations, or biased perspectives. Always verify important claims independently.

6. Indemnification

Because Socratree functions merely as a private processing tool for your own library, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Socratree, its founders, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your uploaded content, specifically including any claims of copyright infringement by third-party rightsholders.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Socratree for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
• Upload illicit content or use the platform for mass distribution of copyrighted material.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the AI models or algorithms used by the platform.
• Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access or interact with the platform.
• Share your account credentials with others or allow others to access your account.

8. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms, abuse of the platform, or any other reason at our sole discretion. You may also delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your data will be permanently deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Socratree and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the platform. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Third-Party Links

Socratree may contain links to external third-party websites (such as public domain book repositories). We do not endorse, control, or assume liability for the content, privacy policies, or copyright status of these external websites. Accessing these links is at your own risk.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may modify these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice on the platform. Your continued use of Socratree after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the European Union and the applicable national laws of Italy, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
